Good stuff , when the headlamp went on my wife's C3 I had no idea how to release the spring , so we took it to Halfords in South Shields who replaced it for a charge , unfortunately the " Mechanic " did not replace the back cover correctly so it filled with water . Thanks to these instructions I have manged to remove the bulb and slowly dry the headlamp out . Citroen , never again

Hi James

Thank you very much for the advice it cost be 38 euros for the easy side at a garage I have just changed the battery side it took 10 minutes with your instructions no tools I tried for hours in Portugal and so did an number of others before giving up previously

Thanks, just spent 3/4 hour poking around in my mate's C3, now i know how it's done, if I find someone with smaller hands it should be a doddle!! I drive SAAB 900's, dead easy compared to the new stuff!!

Thank you for putting this on the internet! I have just had kittens with the car beeping at me as I thought I must have pressed something by accident! Trying to take 3 worried girls to guides too poor things! The radio has been behaving peculiarly for a while actually and fails to tune into preset stations. So thanks this has been really helpful and now can't wait to get a new car! (looking for an excuse to get rid for a while)

I can do any job on a car, but after 30 minutes of cursing & swearing, I still had not released the spring clip holding the bulb in place on my sisters C3. After reading this article I realised that the two "loops" on the clip have to be individually pushed towards the front of the car then sideways to release
Most other cars you squeeze to two loops together!

Awesome instructions.

Citroen should hire you.

It was a heck of a way to spend Sunday afternoon.

If anyone finds it hard to put the stupid clip back of, then try folding a little cardboard over your fingertip and tape it down. It allows you to put more pressure on the stupid spring -otherwise you get big indentations in your finger and can't push down long enough (especially for me the office worker).

Excellent advice. It helps if you use a sewing thimble. Otherwise horribly painful for finger pushing against the spring

This is a great How to... Incidentally when you were writing PD software in 80's did you use the Mother of all Computers... The Amiga? If you did use it did you come across the daddy of all PD libraries... GRAPEVINE.

It was the disc based Mag that CyberGods came together and made all things possible through Assembly Language.

I got half way through this job and, when I reached the unclipping of the bulb, almost gave up. The photographs above show what the eye could never see and help tremendously. Thanks, James.

I would like to thank James for his guidance without which I probably would have gone to the tool box, picked out a useful implement such as a hammer and smashed every light on this car. I am also the owner of a Volvo V70, the bulbs of which require changing more than most. The front are fine to change, a bit fiddily, but straight forward enough. The rear unfortunately are hit and miss. Again you need to possess the power to shrink your hands and be able to remove a number of fingers. I will never curse the Volvo again having just removed the battery cover, fuse box cover and awkward light cover of this fine French piece of engineering. Why do these manufacturers make the changing of a bulb so time consuming.

Flippin' fantastic! This is probably the best set of instructions in the universe.
Love my C3, hate the light bulbs, had c3s for 5 years now and changed light bulbs a number of times - always realise how it should be done after sruggling for an hour or two, but now I have the picture for reference that's great. Once had a fog light broken by a road chip thrown up by a wagon coming towards me - that's another difficult bulb to get to. why oh why can't they use some sort of bayonet push and twist fitting?

I was completely and utterly defeated by the dipped bulb on my passenger side (h7). Thank you very much for the advice and pics. I plan to try again tomorrow when my patience has been restored!

Did not work for me! I use the XBMC Live (ubuntu 10 something) and the grub loader will not appear. The sudo is all fucked so that I can't change grub from the computer :(

The large gallery was run from my server at home, but for some reason I couldn't work out the gallery software stopped working properly. The small gallery was on my web space but I kept running out of my allocated disk usage so now I just have my photography blog which you can find at http://photography.piku.org.uk

Hi Thank you for taking the time to produce this guide. I had to change the headlamp bulb on our C3 today and very quickly realised it had the potential to be a pain. Thankfully I had the forethought to take a quick look on the www and found your guide which both provided a clear instruction and reassurred me that I wasn't the only individual to ponder on the design.

thankyou so much for taking the trouble to write this up complete with photograph.
i had been trying to change the nearside headlamp bulb after reading the useless instructions in the manual and all i had achieved was wearing the last joints off my fingers. just as i was about to set fire to the car i decided to google it and yours was the first i clicked on . your instructions were most helpful and my wife still has a citroen c3 instead of a burnt out wreck .
